In 1942, Hattie Jane News opened the News Service Station and Cafe, serving hamburgers and milkshakes to travelers who stopped at “the watering hole” on their way to Kemper County. School buses often filled the parking lot - where horses drank from the well - on game nights. By the 1950s, the gathering spot favored by locals and travelers alike blossomed into a full service restaurant. Hattie Jane eventually sold the business to her best friend, Louise Belvin, and it has remained in the Belvin family ever since. Third generation owners Chris and Monica Belvin took over the family restaurant in 2012, and they look forward to preserving the family tradition and restoring the historical landmark to its original hay-day luster before passing it on to their sons.
